Newsletter September 2019

Dates for your diary and more, including Claire House fundraiser.

It is lovely to see that all of our children have settled into the new school year so well.  They are all looking refreshed after the summer break and look very smart in their new school uniforms.  I would like to welcome all of our new pupils – some who have joined us from other areas – our children have welcomed them really well, which is a credit to all.

Claire House fundraiser – ‘40 for 40’

The grand total raised last academic year for Claire House was £7,045.72 which was presented to Claire House in the summer to contribute to the grand fundraiser ‘40 for 40’.  Many thanks for your generosity over the year!

School Library

Following building work over the summer break, we have now re-housed our school library on the upper floor of school.  The library will be open on Wednesdays and Thursdays after school for parents to read/choose books with their children.

Photographs

The school photographer will be visiting school on Friday 11th October to take individual portraits.

Flu Immunisation

All children in F2/Y1/Y2/Y3/Y4 & Y5 have been offered flu vaccination in the form of nasal spray.  Consent forms will be sent to parents in the next few weeks.  The NHS team will be in to deliver the vaccinations on Wednesday 6th November.

Water Bottles

As you are aware, we encourage pupils to drink water during the school day and we have a number of water machines where children can refill their water drinking bottles.  We have a new stock of recommended water drinking bottles which can be purchased from the school office or the tuck shop for £1.00.

Pupils’ Journey Home – Year 5 & 6 only

We are in the process of compiling an up-to date list of pupils in key stage two who have parents’ consent to make their own way home alone.  This will be particularly relevant in the coming weeks when the evenings become darker.  If you wish to make any changes to your current arrangement, please obtain a consent form from the school office.

Y6 Secondary Transfer

It is crucial that parents of Y6 pupils complete their preferences on time.  Parents are advised to go online at: www.wirral.gov.uk/schooladmissions to complete the preference forms for secondary school next September – the closing date is 31st October 2019.

School Meals

May we remind parents for those pupils who have now moved up to Year 3 and above that dinner money is to be paid in advance or on the day (£2.30 per day).

Communication with Parents

As you will be aware, we inform parents when there has been a bump to the head during break time, however minor.  We will continue to use our texting service to make the courtesy call.  Please be assured that parents will be contacted by phone if the injury is thought to be of a more serious nature.

Please ensure your email addresses are updated in particular, as we intend to enable our Parent Portal which will allow us to distribute newsletters and request consents by email in future. To inform us of your email address, please email schooloffice@newbrighton.wirral.sch.uk with the subject: Parent Portal and in the body of the email list your child’s name and class.

This website is updated regularly and contains information for parents including a link to our twitter page.

Pupil Premium and Free School Meals

All children in Reception (F2), Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to a universal free school meal automatically (no application necessary).  Older children can still qualify for a free meal depending on their parent or carer receiving certain benefits.  School is entitled to funding for each child who is registered for a free school meal or the Pupil Premium.

  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
